The construction of Nolakhi Kothi was carried out during the British rule when the canal system was being expanded in Punjab. The British government dug canals on a large scale to make fertile lands cultivable, built barrages and organized the agricultural system. Government buildings were constructed at various places for the supervision and administrative affairs of these projects, including Nolakhi Kothi. It is said that the building cost nine lakh rupees at that time, which was considered a huge amount at that time. That is why it was named " Nolakhi Kothi ". This name alone can be used to gauge the financial scale and governmental importance of that era.

Architectural Style and Architecture

The most striking feature of Nolakhi Kothi is its beautiful architecture. Built of red bricks, this building presents a beautiful blend of British-era engineering and local architectural style. Due to lack of awareness at the local level and lack of repair measures, this historical heritage is gradually falling into decline.

Tourism potential

Nolakhi Kothi, if properly preserved and restored, can become an excellent tourist destination. There is no dearth of historical places in and around Okara, but often these places are neglected due to lack of proper publicity and maintenance. If the Department of Archaeology or the local administration focuses on the restoration of this building, installs information boards and arranges for cleanliness, this place can become an attraction for students, researchers and tourists. This place can provide a unique experience, especially for people interested in history and literature.

If given proper attention, it can become not only a preserved historical site but also a landmark of Okara.
